Dr. Rosenthal led a team of archaeologists to the island; the team included his daughter Helena, a woman who was secretly a CIA agent, and two others, one of whom was killed by an alien and the other was shot by General Ri-Shan Kyong. Rosenthal was ordered by Kyong to continue working on a captured alien scout even though he believed it was dangerous; his fears ended up coming true when the creature emitted a freezing blast that killed Rosenthal.
