Crytek is a game development company responsible for developing the Crysis series. Crytek was founded in 1999 and has since created three game engines, the latter two, CryEngine 2 and CryEngine 3, being involved in the Crysis series.
Crytek has several branches:
- Crytek Frankfurt, also known simply as Crytek, responsible for the development of Far Cry, Crysis, and Crysis 2.
- Crytek Budapest, responsible for the development of Crysis Warhead.
- Crytek Black Sea (originally Black Sea Studios), working on an unspecified game. The original Black Sea Studios created Knights of Honor and WorldShift.
- Crytek UK (originally Free Radical), responsible for the multiplayer of Crysis 2. The original Free Radical created TimeSplitters and its two sequels, Second Sight, and the poorly reviewed Haze, which caused them to lose their license with LucasArts developing Star Wars: Battlefront III.
Crytek also has small branches in Kiev and Seoul.
